Ax Facts & Stats with Donnie Iris

My name is: Donnie Iris.

My hometown: Beaver Falls Pa.

Former bands: The Jaggerz ; Wild Cherry.

My guitar influences growing up were: Steve Cropper, John Lennon, Keith Richards, Buddy Holly.

The guitars I use are: Fender Stratocaster, Gibson circa 1968 Acoustic- Electric.

The strings and tunings I use are: Standard Tuning, no specific brand strings.

My current rig setup consists of: Guitar straight to Legend amp.

My favorite guitar solo from our band: none in particular, all Marty's solos kick ass!

My favorite all-time guitar solo (from another guitarist): “Another Brick in the Wall.”

Favorite song by our band: “Ah! Leah.”

My Career highlight thus far is: Gold record "The Rapper" 1970, The Jaggerz; Being a part of Donnie Iris and the Cruisers for over 30 years (and still giggin!)

My most embarrassing moment on stage: Ripped my pants right up the ass at Blossom in Cleveland!

My first guitar was: Harmony f-hole acoustic 1959.

The first time I ever heard our band on the radio was (when and where): 1969 Freedom, PA – “The Rapper,” The Jaggerz; 1980 (or was it '81) “Ah! Leah” Donnie Iris and the Cruisers, Beaver Falls, PA.

The exact moment I knew I would pursue a career in music was: When I dropped out of college in 1964.

The best advice I could give beginning guitarists: Don't let getting discouraged keep you from plowing on.

My 3 all-time favorite albums: Beatles White album; Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On; Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Favorite junk food: Potato Chips.

My biggest pet peeve: Monitors that suck!

What I like to do in my "off" time (hobbies): Golf, Good Cigars.

The first thing I do when I come home from touring is: Chill!

Previous or first day job: Laborer in a mattress cover factory.

Right after this interview I'm going to: Smoke a great Stogie and have a King Cool Light beer.

If I wasn't doing the musician thing, I could really see myself working as: Truck Driver.

Favorite movie: Scarface, Tombstone, Goodfellas, A Bronx Tale… in no particular order.

My next goal is: Another good album.
